Passkeys let you sign in using your fingerprint, face, or device PIN — no email codes, no passwords. To set one up: sign in normally, go to Profile, scroll to the Passkeys card, give it a name like "MacBook Touch ID", and click Add passkey. Your device will prompt you to confirm.
Next time you sign in, click Sign in with Passkey on the login page and authenticate with your biometric — you're in. Passkeys are tied to the device or password manager you create them on, so you can register one for each device you regularly use.

Each expense has a payer (who fronted the money) and splitters (who shares the cost). When you add an expense, we record the full amount as paid by the payer and then divide it across the splitters according to the split type you choose:
Even split — total ÷ number of splitters. Everyone owes the same share.
By percent — each splitter's share is a percentage of the total you choose.
By share/weight — a points system. If Alice has 2 shares and Bob has 1, Alice pays 2/3 of the bill.
By exact amount — you assign specific dollar amounts to each splitter.
One person owes the full amount — useful when you covered something for a single friend.
Across all the expenses in a group, we sum up what each person paid and what they owe. The Settlements page then nets those balances down to the smallest number of transactions to settle everyone up.

Upload a photo of a receipt and AI extracts the line items, prices, and total. You can then edit any errors and split the line items individually (great for splitting a restaurant bill where some people only ate certain things).
Free accounts get 3 AI scans per month. Premium accounts get 20 per month. Scans reset on the 1st of each month. Your monthly limit is locked in at the price you subscribed at — if we raise limits for new subscribers later, you keep what you originally paid for.

Yes. When you create a group, choose Multi-Currency mode. You pick a settlement currency (the currency final balances and settlements show in) and then enter each expense in whatever currency it was actually charged. We convert using current exchange rates and net everything out at the end.
If everyone's in one country, Single Currency mode is simpler — every expense is in the same currency.

Premium feature. If you set a passcode on a group, anyone visiting the group's link has to enter it before they can see expenses, members, or settlements. Once they verify the passcode it's remembered for that browser session.
Useful for shared trips where you don't want anyone with the link to peek at the numbers, or for groups dealing with sensitive amounts.

Open the group, click the gear icon to go to Edit Group, and scroll to the danger zone. Deleted groups are soft-deleted — they stop appearing in your dashboard but the data is retained for 30 days in case you change your mind. After that they're permanently removed.
Two ways to get premium features (receipt photos, comments, group passcode, unlimited AI scans):
Premium subscription — monthly recurring charge. Unlocks premium in every group you create, for as long as you're subscribed. Best if you run multiple groups.
Premium for this group — one-time payment, lifetime access. Unlocks premium for that one specific group forever, no recurring charges. Best if you only need premium for a single trip or shared household. Look for the offer card on a new group's page if you don't already have a subscription.
Premium for a group applies to everyone in that group — anyone you invite can use the premium features there too. But it's tied to the group, not to you, so it doesn't unlock anything in your other groups.

Go to Billing from the user menu, then click Cancel Subscription. You keep premium access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for. You can resubscribe any time after — your account is never deleted just for canceling.
If you bought "Premium for this group" as a one-time payment, there's nothing to cancel — you keep that group's premium features for the life of the group.

If you cancel within 7 days of a charge and haven't used any AI receipt scans during that billing period, email us at support@tripsplitter.com and we'll refund you. Outside that window, your subscription stays active until period-end and we don't refund partial months. The same window applies to one-time "Premium for this group" purchases.
When you create a group with an unverified email address, we send you a verification link by email. If you don't verify within 12 hours, the group and account are automatically deleted. This keeps spam off the platform. You'll see a warning banner on the group page with a button to resend the verification email if needed.
Yes. We don't sell or share your data with third parties. We don't run ads. Your expense data, group memberships, and contact info are used only to make TripSplitter work for you.
The only data we share with third parties is the bare minimum needed for the service to function: Stripe (for processing payments), Resend (for sending emails), and Google/Apple (for OAuth sign-in, if you use it). See the Privacy Policy for details.

Go to Profile, scroll to the bottom, and click Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, your created groups, and all expense data tied to you. Other members in your groups will see your splitter as unclaimed.
