Terms of Service

Last updated: August 23, 2026

Who We Are

TripSplitter (the "Service") is operated by AkiCreative Inc. ("we", "us", "our"). The Service includes the website at tripsplitter.com, the TripSplitter iOS app, and any related tools we ship under the same name. By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Using The Service

You need an account to use most of the Service. Sign-in is passwordless, using a code sent to your email address or your Apple account, and you are responsible for keeping access to that email account secure. You are responsible for everything done through your account.

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live. The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use.

Groups And Shared Content

TripSplitter works by sharing a group between several people. Anyone in a group can see the expenses, names, amounts, comments, and receipt images added to that group, including content added by other members.

  • Only add information about other people if you are entitled to share it.
  • Do not upload receipts or photos containing payment card numbers or other sensitive details you do not want the group to see.
  • The person who creates a group controls its settings, including archiving it and who may invite others.
  • Content you add to a group may remain visible to that group even if you later leave it or delete your account.

Things You Cannot Do

  • Use the Service for anything unlawful, or to harass, defraud, or impersonate anyone.
  • Upload content you do not have the right to upload.
  • Attempt to access accounts, groups, or data that are not yours.
  • Probe, scrape, overload, or interfere with the Service or the systems behind it.
  • Resell or redistribute the Service, or use it to build a competing product.

Paid Features (Premium)

TripSplitter is free to use. Some features are designated "Premium" and require payment. The current Premium feature set is shown on the paywall in the app and on the Premium page on the website, and it may change over time. If we materially reduce what Premium includes, we will give existing subscribers reasonable notice.

Premium can be purchased in two different ways, and how you cancel depends on where you bought it:

  • In the iOS app, as an auto-renewing monthly or annual subscription billed through Apple In-App Purchase. Billing, renewal, cancellation, and refunds follow Apple's standard policies. To manage or cancel, use your Apple Account subscription settings. We cannot cancel or refund an Apple subscription on your behalf.
  • On the website, as a subscription billed through Stripe. To manage or cancel, use the billing page on tripsplitter.com. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

A group may also be upgraded with a one-time purchase on the website. That purchase applies to that single group, is not a subscription, and does not renew.

Prices are shown before you buy, in your local currency where supported. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable once a period has begun.

Money Between Members

TripSplitter is a record-keeping and calculation tool. We do not hold, transfer, or process money between group members. Balances, settlement suggestions, and currency conversions are provided for convenience only. Marking a payment as settled records that you say it happened; it does not move any funds.

You are responsible for checking that amounts are correct and for actually paying each other. We are not a party to any debt or arrangement between members, and nothing in the Service is financial, tax, or legal advice.

Receipt Scanning

Receipt scanning uses automated processing to read line items from a photo you provide. It is not always accurate. Review scanned amounts before relying on them. Scanning is subject to a monthly limit that differs between the free and Premium tiers.

No Warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error free, or that calculations, conversions, or scanned data will be accurate.

Limitation Of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AkiCreative Inc. is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any lost data, lost profits, or amounts you fail to recover from another person. Our total liability relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, in which case the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted.

Termination And Data Retention

You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. Deleting your account unlinks you from your groups; expenses you added may remain in those groups so that other members' balances stay correct.

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms or use the Service in a way that risks harm to others or to the Service. Inactive and archived groups may be removed automatically after an extended period.

Changes To These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we will make reasonable efforts to tell you. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict of laws rules. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario.
