What the bot can do
- Add expenses by chatting. Tell the bot "$45 dinner" and pick the group + payer + how to split — all in the chat. Way faster than opening the app.
- Get notified. When someone adds an expense to a group you're in, the bot pings you (if you have notifications enabled).
-
List your groups. Use the
/listcommand to see all your groups and balances without opening the website. - Sign in soft-session. Once paired, the bot can authenticate you into the website temporarily for quick balance checks.
How to connect
- Sign in to TripSplitter and go to Profile.
- Find the Telegram card. Click Connect Telegram — it shows a one-time pairing code.
-
On mobile, tap the Open @tripsplitterbot button — Telegram opens with the pairing message pre-filled. Hit send.
On desktop, scan the QR code with your phone, or open Telegram, search for @tripsplitterbot, and send/start YOUR_CODE. - The profile page detects the connection automatically and shows you as Connected.

Adding an expense via Telegram
- Send the amount and description:
$45 dinner at Joe's - The bot asks which group — tap one of the inline buttons.
- The bot asks who paid — tap a member.
- The bot asks how to split — pick from: even, by exact amount, by percent, by share, or "one person owes the full amount".
- Confirm. The expense is created and everyone in the group gets notified.
Turning notifications on/off
On the Profile page, you'll find a Notifications card with switches for things like "Expense updated" and "Added to a group". Notifications go via email and — if your account is linked — also via Telegram. Flip the switches to opt in or out of any category.
Disconnecting
On the Profile page, the Telegram card has a Disconnect button. This unlinks the bot from your account immediately — you can re-pair any time. The bot keeps no data after disconnect.
